The Crosshaven Railway walk is one of the most popular walks is the beautiful walk from Kilnagleary, near Carrigaline, right into Crosshaven, with the Owenabue River by your side all the way to the harbour. Along the route you will be able to observe many species of birds and wildlife or relax and have a picnic at the amenity areas provided. There is great history attached to this walk also as most of it runs along the old Cork to Crosshaven railway line, which operated from 1904 to 1932.
The Slí route runs alongside the beautiful Owenabue River, and is a haven for many species of birds and wildlife. There are also many benches and tables along the way to enjoy a picnic or take in the stunning scenery.
Along the route, just opposite the picturesque Coolmore House, you will pass “Drake’s Pool”. This cove is a recess that has enjoyed a rich history. Sir Francis Drake and five of his fleet ships took refuge in 1587 when they were pursued by the powerful Spanish Armada.
