Details: “Spike Island occupies a key location in lower Cork Harbour, the multi-cultural island has hosted a monastery, a fortress and a prison within its 104 acres, all of which have left their mark”. Cork County Council has been developing the island as a vehicle for retelling the story of 1400 years of history and the Irish diaspora with the aim of having Spike Island as a “unique cultural heritage and activity destination, offering a compelling, high quality, rich and diverse set of experiences for all visitors”. For those wishing to pay the island a visit, the ferry departs Kennedy Pier daily. Cost for return ferry trip, including entry to Fort Mitchel and brief introductory guided tour, is €18 per Adult/€10 per child/€45 per Family (2 Adults & 2 Children or 1 Adult & 3 Children). Discounts apply for tickets purchased online. Booking Required.
