Cobh has been named one of the Top 25 Most Beautiful Towns in Europe

Condé Nast, one of the world’s most famous and prestigious travel magazines, has named Cobh as one of the Top 25 Most Beautiful Towns in Europe.

Cobh earns its place as the only Irish town on the list, beating out even the immensely popular towns like Killarney and Dingle. Other towns ranked across Europe include Bled in Slovenia, Ronda in Spain and Ribe in Denmark which is a town with over 1300 years of history.

So, what does writer Caitlin Morton think makes Cobh so special?

She draws focus to its “rows of candy- coloured homes along the water” as well as the famous St Colman’s “towering cathedral standing sentry over the harbour.”

Spike Island in Cobh was named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction in 2017, an across the world, Cobh is famous for its association with the Titanic. Cobh was the last port of call for the ship before its ill-fated voyage in 1912. Because of this the town has a museum experience, restaurant and walking trail dedicated to the memory of the Titanic and its passengers.

Cobh is favored as a very popular cruise ship destination, with 2019 set to break records as a whopping 102 vessels are expected to have docked before the year’s end, bringing 200,000 passengers and 80,000 crew to the town.

Jack Walsh, manager of Cobh Heritage Center and member of the Ring Of Cork board was delighted with the mention. “We are always championing Cobh as a visitor destination, so to see our beautiful small town featured in a prestigious publication like Condé Nast Traveller Magazine is a fantastic endorsement.”

It is wonderful that this beautiful town in the heart of the Ring Of Cork is recognised with such an accolade, Cobh has so much history behind it and a bright future ahead of it.
