Habitat & Species
Gulls are plentiful here with Whitegate Bay holding the largest gathering of Mediterranean Gulls in the country. Other interesting species include the Ring-billed Glaucous and the Iceland Gull.

About the Area
At one time, coal boats were regular callers to the Whitegate Piers, while the Geata Ban brought in supplies and passengers from Cork.  With the improvement of transport facilities, however, these boats became redundant.
