Habitat & Species
As a National Wildfowl Sanctuary, Lough Aderra is a great place for birds all year round. As one of the few fresh water lakes in East Cork, this is possibly the best site in the county to see the scarce Gadwall.
About the Area
During the extremely harsh winter of 1939, the lake froze for several weeks and people came from near and far to walk, cycle and skate across it. It is even reported that a car and motorcycle crossed the frozen water!
