Habitat & Species
The estuary walk is a good place to see the variety of bird species found in the Glashaboy Estuary, an area designated for the protection of a wide range of wintering water birds, as part of the Cork Harbour Special Protection Area.
About the Area
In the 1800s, Glanmire was a small village; a smallpox fever once killed many of the villagers. Close by was a highly industrialised area with woollen factories and mills scattered around the Glashaboy River.
Please see opposite an image of a Redshank, which may be seen here at Glashaboy Estuary.
