Habitat & Species
Harper’s Island is a particularly important area for birds to roost at high tide. Here you may see large flocks of Black-tailed Godwits and Redshank using the safety of the fields as they wait for the tide to drop, exposing the mud once again.

About the Area
The island, once known as ‘The Quay’ in the late 1700s, had only a few very small houses and two quays which would facilitate the lighters and their cargoes of stone, sand, lime as well as their various farming supplies as they toiled mainly for the local landlords.
